Holistic Medicine And Its Bad Publicity

holistic medicineIf you search homeopathy and holistic medicine on the Internet, it is very likely that you may come across some bad publicity. Apparently, some homeopathic remedies have had some harmful side effects on certain individuals. However, this does not mean that all homeopathic remedies are bad for you. The problem with new alternative medicine is that there is still a lot of research that needs to be done. Even traditional medicine has had its ups and downs, especially when it was very new.

The biggest precaution to take when trying holistic medicine is to always speak with a professional or a doctor before trying a remedy. Although you might read somewhere on the Internet that a certain substance or herb is safe, this does not mean that it is safe for everyone. Some herbs interact with other prescription drugs in strange ways and this can potentially cause some side effects.

Always remember to get professional advice before trying an alternative remedy. No matter what information you acquire from the Internet, do not put all of your faith into it. A professional physician will be able to run tests on your body to determine whether or not a substance will be harmful to you. There is nothing wrong with keeping an open mind about medicine, but at the same time you must be very careful.

Learn About Holistic Medicine From The AHMA

holistic medicineThe official website for the American Holistic Medical Association is probably one of the best resources for someone who wants to learn more about alternative treatments. This site will hopefully answer many of the questions that you have about holistic medicine, and it is also a great way to search for a holistic doctor in your area.

One of the greatest things about the website for the AHMA is that there is section titled, "How to Choose a Holistic Practitioner." One of the most important things to remember about alternative medicine is that it is not for everyone. This section of the website will hopefully assist you in finding a doctor that is right for you so that you can determine whether or not this type of medicine is safe for your body.

Since the AHMA is an "association," those interested in holistic medicine can choose to join it. Members of the AHMA are able to attend official conferences and meetings which will keep them properly informed and up-to-date with information about alternative treatments.

If you have a genuine interest in this type of medicine then I strongly suggest that you visit www.holisticmedicine.org to learn more.

Is Holistic Medicine Right For You?

holistic medicineMany of those who advocate the use of herbal remedies and holistic medicine believe that the main idea is to prevent sickness from occurring in the first place, rather than waiting to treat it once it has already happened.

Although traditional medicine is not obsolete, it does work in a very different way than holistic medicine. Joseph Blustein, an associate at the University of Wisconsin in Madison has been studying herbal remedies for roughly forty years and he now works as a consultant for various pharmaceutical companies.

"What is important in herbal medicine is matching the person to the herb," Blustein mentioned. "For example, a person with a headache with conventional medicine may take an aspirin for relief. This does not address the root cause and the headache most likely would reoccur."

One of the important things to remember is that herbs and holistic treatments are designed to treat the entire body as a whole, rather than focusing on one specific part.

"In holistic medicine, we believe the body is connected physically and energetically, and to treat one aspect doesn't address imbalances in the whole system," mentioned Community Pharmacy specialist Jackie Nikolaus. "The goal is balance."

Once again, however, there is another side to the issue. One of the arguments against holistic medicine is that it is not regulated by the FDA like traditional medicine is. Most health practitioners will not prescribe these types of treatments for this very reason, and that is why many people tend to be skeptical about it.

In general, a good rule of thumb to remember about any type of medicine is that it should not be consumed unless all necessary precautions have been taken. Unless you have been given the approval of a professional in holistic medicine, do not take any substance that is unfamiliar to your body. Some herbs can actually have negative effects on certain individuals, and that is why a doctor's recommendation is absolutely necessary. Do some research, speak with holistic professionals and experts, and be smart about what you put into your body. If the treatment does happen to be right for your body, then it might be just what you need.

What Is Holistic Medicine? Know The Facts Before Starting Treatment

holistic medicineThe Canadian Holistic Medical Association defines holistic medicine as a type of health care which holds a working relationship between involved parties, and is geared toward the "optimal attainment" of all aspects of health including those that are mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual.

Holistic medicine stresses the need to consider a person's entire body, including the evaluation of every value that he or she may hold. This includes things like the patient's nutrition, emotional strength, physical state, mental history, as well as many other factors. It does not dismiss or disregard any other type of treatment including the use of drugs and surgery, especially if no other alternative treatment is available. Holistic medicine also encourages that patients be responsible for their own personal efforts to heal themselves as well.

Holistic, or Alternative Medicine, basically involves techniques and treatments that are not currently accepted by traditional, or "conventional" practitioners. However, these treatments are accepted as being "quickly changing", meaning that they have the potential to become an accepted form of treatment. This also means that forms of treatment that are categorized as alternative medicine will eventually be referred to as forms of "conventional" medicine.

Whether or not you currently have an ailment or condition that needs treatment, it is recommended by many that you consider holistic options and the best way to learn about them is to speak with a homeopathic doctor or practitioner.
